Montgomery once had a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q) mainline and a branch line. In addition, the Aurora, Elgin & Fox River Electric Company (AE&FRE) operated a streetcar within the city. Today, the CB&Q mainline is owned by BNSF Railway, while the branch line is owned by Illinois Railway.
