West Chicago once had five railroads, including a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q) branch line, Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) main and branch lines, a Chicago Great Western Railway (CGW) mainline, an Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E) mainline and the Batavia Branch of the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railroad (CA&E). Today, the EJ&E is owned by Canadian National Railway, the CB&Q is owned by BNSF Railway, while the C&NW is owned by Union Pacific Railroad. The CA&E has been converted to the Illinois Prairie Path, and the CGW has been converted to the Great Western Trail.
