Valley Junction once both had a Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway (Omaha Road) mainline and a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) branch line. Today, the former Omaha Road is owned by Union Pacific Railroad, while the Milwaukee Road has been abandoned.
