Rondout was once the intersection of a number of railroad lines, including a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) mainline and a Milwaukee Road branch line, an Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E) mainline and a Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad (CNS&M) branch line. Today, the Milwaukee Road lines are owned by CPKC, while the EJ&E is owned by Canadian National Railway. The CNS&M has become part of a trail.
