Lake Bluff once had three Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) mainlines, a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) mainline and three Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad (CNS&M) lines. Today, the C&NW lines are owned by Union Pacific Railroad, the Milwaukee Road is owned by CPKC and the CNS&M lines have become part of trails.
