La Crescent was the meeting point of three Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway lines, including a mainline from Chicago to La Crosse and north to Minneapolis, a branch line from La Crescent to South Dakota, and a secondary mainline along the Mississippi River. Today, the mainlines are owned by CPKC, while the branch line is abandoned.
