Highwood once had a pair of Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) mainlines and a pair of Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad (CNS&M) lines. Today, the C&NW lines are owned by Union Pacific Railroad, and the CNS&M lines have become part of trails.
