Elgin once had a number of railroad lines, including a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) mainline, a mainline and a branch line of the Chicago & North Western Railway, a branch of the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railroad (CA&E) and a streetcar line of the Aurora, Elgin and Fox River Electric Company (AE&FRE).
