DeKalb once had a number of railroads, including a mainline of the Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW), a branch line of the C&NW, a Chicago Great Western Railway (CGW) branch line, and a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) secondary line. Today, the C&NW mainline and branch line south of the city are owned by Union Pacific Railroad, while the remaining railroads have been abandoned.
