Charles City once had a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) secondary line, an Illinois Central Railroad (IC) branch line and a Charles City Western Railroad (CCW) interurban line. Today, the former Milwaukee Road is owned by CPKC, the former IC is owned by Canadian National Railway and the CCW has largely been abandoned.
