Located near Dakota Park in St. Louis Park, this through plate girder bridge once carried the Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern over the Great Northern Railway mainline. Originally built in 1915, the bridge consists of a single through plate girder span, set onto a steel bent pier at each end. The bridge is also approached by several trestle spans on either side. This bridge is one of only a handful of original MN&S bridges remaining. Many others have been removed or replaced. The through plate girder design was popular with American railroads, as it provided ample clearance underneath the bridge. However, its main drawback was the horizontal clearance restrictions. Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition, with no major deterioration noted. The author has rated the bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
