The town had four railroads serving it. The Rock Island had a mainline between Iowa and Chicago. This line is now a CSX mainline.
The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy had a line from Savannah to Streator, now abandoned.
The Illinois Central had a mainline from Freeport across Illinois going through the town, now mostly abandoned.
In addition, the Chicago, Ottawa & Peoria had an interurban line along the Illinois River, now mostly removed.
